METHOD

How the screen works

Every trading day. Every ASX company valued under $5 million is checked after the close.

The Quiet List. A company joins when its share price has been flat for 12 months, or for 6 months. Below 10 cents, flat means every closing price stayed within 4 price steps of the usual price. A price step is the smallest move the ASX allows. Below 10 cents that is a tenth of a cent, so a share at 0.5 cents that moves to 0.6 cents has moved one step. At 10 cents or more, flat means the highest close was no more than 10% above the lowest.

Above usual volume. A Quiet List company that trades 3 to 10 times its usual daily shares, with the price moving one step or less and no announcement, is labelled on the list. It is not noted.

Noted today. A Quiet List company is noted when its shares trade at least 10 times the usual daily amount for its flat period, with the price moving one step or less (under 2% at 10 cents or more) and no announcement on the day or the trading day before. There is no dollar minimum. It is also noted when it announces a new director, a board change, a substantial holder change, a change of control or a placement.

Followed for 60 days. It is then followed for 60 trading days, including any announcement it lodges, and then moves to the archive.

Volume can rise for reasons that leave no announcement, such as one holder selling a block of shares to another. This page reports what traded and what was lodged. It does not say why, and nothing on it is a signal to buy or sell.
